Letters to the Editor
In reference to your Corridor Propaganda issue in Report No.67, I just came across this Post World fl (!) card depicting nostalgia for the old pre—war borders, newly—lost eastern lands and reminiscing about the Corridor, more or less. May give us a bit of a pause about German reunification, although the West Germans have promised Poland to respect its present borders. An interesting sidelight to the 1930’s editions.
I think that the card was printed in the late 1940’s, not in the 1960’s as the postmark states. For instance, notice the Sowjet Zone, not the DDR, which is labeled Mitteldeutschland. There were probably American, British and French Zones when this was printed, and unification was thought to be just a matter of time. The mention of Roosevelt, Truman, Churchill, Stalin and Yalta, still fresh in 1940’s minds, had long since past in 1963. The long-past nomenclature of Danzig, Breslau, Allenstein, Memel, etc., wasn’t so long past in the late 40’s.
