6.1 DOMESTIC MAIL — NORMAL MAIL

A Polish mail delivery service was started in part of the city of Gdańsk as well, delivering mail received from Poland. According to an agreement, made between the Polish and the Free City Post, all mail from Poland with the address shown as in GDAŃSK would be delivered by the Polish Post. In the early 1930s, when the postal war started again, a few Free City Government Offices started to refuse post delivered by the Polish Post in the Free City. Officially this mail had to be sent back to the Post Office Tczew 2, the point of exchange with the Free City Post. In practice, however, such mail was immediately handed over to the Free City Post to save time.

Below: Registered letter from Tczew to the Free City Financial Office in GDAŃSK. This office refused mail delivered by the Polish Post. The Polish Post changed the address to "DANZIG" and handed the letter to the Free City Post for delivery. TCZEW 1a registry handstamp, TCZEW 1g cds 24.8.34. POLSKI URZĄD POCZTOWO-TEL.
