6.1.1 DOMESTIC MAIL — THE USE OF POSTAGE STAMPS

The Polish Post in Gdańsk had to use normal Polish postage due stamps because no special postage due stamps, overprinted or otherwise, were issued for them.

Left: Letter from Poznań to Gdańsk on which 50 groszy had to be paid instead of 25 because the letter was heavier than 20 gr. The endorsement „Gdańsk" was probably added by a postal clerk in Poznań to ensure that the letter would be directed to the Polish rather than the Free City Post. 50 groszy postage due, double the deficiency. POZNAŃ g cds 25.9.30, POLSKI URZĄD P.-T. No 1 GDANSK k cds 26.9.30 on the postage due stamps. Mixed franking of a 40 groszy stamp of the 1924 issue and two 5 groszy stamps of the 1930 issue. 5 groszy stamps were not issued in 1924.
