6.1.1 DOMESTIC MAIL — THE USE OF POSTAL STATIONERY

On 1 February 1934, the first postal stationery cards were issued specially for the Polish Post in Gdańsk. The stamp imprints on normal Polish postał cards were overprinted PORT GDAŃSK. Because the prevailing postal rate for postcards in Poland was 20 groszy but only 15 in Gdańsk, a new value had to be printed on the cards as well. Later, the two postage rates were harmonised thus obviating the need for the change of value. Between 1934 and 1938 four different postal stationery cards were issued.
