Philately is Alive and Well at the Kiub Ziemia Gdanska
Less than a block away from St. John’s church and close to the Dom Aktora at Straganiariska 28-30. is the home of philately in Gdansk. Seems that, on Monday afternoons, Danzig and Port Gdansk collectors gather on the second floor of a 3-story burgher’s house to trade, sell and buy stamps and covers. Would you believe that there are as many as 30 collectors working the room! On special occasions, when there are visitors from other countries, they are invited to join the hoard members on the third floor for a lively discussion about stiunps. Since the majority speak only Polish, our good friend Erwin ‘/.wierzycki has traditionally done the translation from Polish or German into English, for the benefit of us slackers.
At the right is an oHicial postcard that ii lustrates the complex of buildings owned by the Filatelic Kiub, with the retail stamp shop on the right, on the first floor, with its enhance through the lobby of the center entrance. On the second floor of the right-hand building is the location of the members’ hourse, where all kinds of hooks and philatelic items are for sale by the members.
