Danzig Report Nr. 155.
From the Beginning - - - to the End - - - 1938 - 1945.
Danzig's Westerplatte War extends around the World;
The Gbeisenau is scuttled in Gotenhafen.
Gotenhafen, Korridor & North Atlantic.
The Kriegsmarine's Gniesenau plows through the Baltic after being completed, only to find that the ship would respond better to the icy waters of the north Atlantic by modifying its bow. The low deck has made the ship "wet" in North Atlantic conditions. This led alterations in the sheer line and the installation of the 'Atlantic Bow' during a December, 1938, refit. Tehe new trials in the Atlantic in June, 1939, and the changes in the battleship's silhouette showed an improvement in its handling in icy waters.
