We have Lived in Historic Times!

Could it be 60 year., already?
On August 31, 1939, Hitler gave the commands “Case White”, and “Fishing 4:45”. which called for the invasion of Poland and the start of World War II. At 4:45 A.M. on September 1st, the I battleship Schleswig-Ilolstein. on a “good will” visit to Danzig, opened fire on the Westerplatte.

Following a stamp design that commem ates (he victory of the Poles over ihe Teutonic Knights at Cirunwald, the Polish post office offered this I +9 Zloty depicion of the struggle for Westerplauc on 22 July 1945. A hit crude compared to later Polish stamps. it wasted no Lime in getting to the point.

Covers, from September, 1939
One of the pleasures of Danzig philately is intinding Danzig covers/cards within the first month of hostilities. Below are a few random-picked from a collection --- nothing exceptional, but interesting all the same. We know that you have more significant covers, so please send copies for future Reports.

Stamp dealer Richard Bury is very much bock in business on September 22nd, informing a customer of an offer that can be paid to &sry’s Postscheckkontor. Notice that the dealer has resisted the protocol of closing the note with “Hell Hitler!”, using “Mit deutschen Grul” instead, just 3 days after Hitler’s visit.
