Propaganda Card with Special Cancel

FRED BEHRENDT shows us a copy of the beautiful Danzig coat-of-arms propaganda card that has the special cancel: ADOLF HITLER, EHRENBURGER l)ER FREIE STADT DANZIG. With a date of 20 April, 1939, it claims Hitler as honorary citizen of the Free City. There is no written message along with the address, and it is not known if this was actually put into the mail The 5+5 pfg stamp, Michel No. 284, illustrates the racing yacht Peter von Danzig. The stamp was produced on 28 November, 1938, as part of the Winterhilfswerk issue.

This card shows clearly the motto that has been in use for centuries: Nec temere, nec limide. which translates to: Neither rashly nor timidly. This motto is still in use today.

Another installment of MINARD’S LIST
Dick Minard (Seattle WA) has diligently worked up another list in his series of Danzig Varieties, covering Michel numbers 112 thru 180. We have heard appreciative feedback from the members who carry Dick’s list to bourses in order to get an immediate identification of-the variety at hand. Thanks again!
