SOMETHING TO REMEMHER
Gunther Grass wrote several books about Danzig/Gdansk, correctly naming the city according to the time period described. This policy is one that we have attempted to follow. In the 1997 Danziqer Hauskalender, the editor has quoted Paul Simson in Band 3 of his Geschichte der Stadt Danzig (also in the 1986 Houskalender) with these designations during these periods of history :
997 Gyddanyzc 1148 Kdanzc 1178 Gdanzc 1209 Danzk
1220 Gdanizc 1220 Gdanzk 1224 Gdanensis 1224 Dancek

Please be prepared for a quiz in the morning.
“Thanks and a tip of the Hatlo hat” to Walt Kohibach. We know, of course, that this sort of thing never happens! (Two cents for first class?? Wow Walt, you sure keep stuff fora long time!)
