“It’s June in January”. . . almost. The reason for this late edition is due to the arrival, of a long-anticipated copier that will bring significant improvements to the quality of our Reports. Although it will be possible to retain solid blacks a.s in the original, a truer halftone with less grain will be possible, and without the shine of the old “ink”. Note the subtle folds of the tissue-like letter printed on Page 2, especially near the old wax seal. This particular letter was printed “live” from the original, but we had similar success with the rather dark photostats on Pages 3, 4 and 5. The potential of this new tool is exciting.

St. Louis on September 30, October 1 and 2 are CPS Convention Days, and the Danzig Study Group will also be meeting. Gremlins apparently notified the Specialist (via the Kaleidoscope, August, Page 373) that there was an error in the Danzig Report re: the “20 P Einl. -Geb.” hand stamp seen on some Free City covers. In fact, the “correction” apparently came from the opinion of the experts. They have not yet told us when the Postal Regulation of 1871 was superceded so that an exact correction, citing the later regulation (and preferably a photostat of that section) can be published. We have been severely criticized for taking a very logical stand as clearly stated on Page 1 of the last port. Hopefully, this elusive regulation will surface within the next month or two and the entire issue will be settled.

The Ruberg article on Danzig Postal History through 1929 will be concluded in the next issue. After this comes the catapult mail issue, and later, the early Prussian history that includes Dantzig. Please keep sending in clear photostats or 3-M or Canon copies of interesting material; it is always welcome. A clear copy is, of course, necessary for a readable reprint. Accidentally, you cancellation specialists (such as John Whiteside, and others) let us know how accurate the article is that follows on Page 2. Remember, it was written in 1929.
