>> GERMAN CATAPULT FLIGHTS by JOHN M. MATTLER
Shipments not being able to reach the steamship “Bremen” on time, but stillable to reach the connecting flight Cologne-Cherbourg, will gain abet 3 days time. Because of the use of the catapultplane, there will be an additional gain Df half a day, in some cases even more, due to delivery schedules.
Mail being transported with the catapultplane, shall receive a special cancel with the inscription “Deutscher Katapultflug Dampfer (“Bremen” New York” (German catapultflight steamship “Bremnen”, New York) and the date.
As a representative signed Nordmann
This bulletin was not published in the official bulletin “Amtsblatt” as of today, and it is therefore generally unknown to the public. This fact explains the small number of covers. I can not describe the cancels being used on this flight, because I have not seen this cover. The German covers all show the same cancels as on the second catapultflight. The only difference is the oval cachet, it is now an octagonal red cancel showing the same inscription but a different day of departure (10.Sept. 1929)
IV. Catapultflight Departure : I October 1929 Accepted in Danzig: 37 pieces of mail Price 30.- RM
All cancels on this flight equal to those of the second catapultflight (except the date) . This time an American receiving cancel was used at the arrival station.
V. Catapultflight Departure: End of October 1929 Accepted in Danzig: 6 pieces of mail Price 30,- RM
None of these covers were known to me at the time this catalog went to the press.
