Danzig Report No. 25.

DANZIG REPORT STUDY and RESEARCH GROUP

Editor: John H. Bloecher Jr., 1743 Little Creek Drive, Baltimore, Md. 21207

WESTPEX 80 will be held April 11-13 at the Jack Tar Hotel in San Francisco. We hope that as many members as possible will convene an informal Danzig Study Group meeting and will report in our summer issue.

One of the many highlights of the Baltimore 30th GPS Anniversary Convention was the sale of printed-to-order GPS stationary by the Federal Republic and by Berlin. We expected a sellout, but rationing saved a hundred or so sets of four cards for those members who couldn’t attend. The very interesting thing about the 60 Pfg value is its red-purple color instead of its correct olive drab. None of the five German officials present at BALPEX had an explanation for the “error”, but we have learned that a new 1980 issue will change the color to red-purple. With a new issue date in 1980, you can figure the value of owning a “fore-runner” dated “31.-8, 79-16”. Order according to instructions on P. 89 of the February Specialist and note also the mention on P. 73 about the new Michel “Privatganszache  Katalog”. Not only valuable, but beautifully printed card.

The jury is still out on additional varieties of Mi. 51 as shown in the last Report. Our friend, Heinz Pauli, who recently returned to Germany, promises some insight. We are also relying on the accurate information of Herr Gerhard Schüler, who is expected to help in this study.

Among other things in this issue, excerpts from three excellent publications related to Danzig are shown. All are essential to the serious study of our specialty, but the GPS Dictionary is superb, both in content and in readability. The excerpts should whet many an appetite to own the publications. If anyone knows the source of the postmark handbook by Gerhard Hasselhoff (with contributions by G. Schüler, please inform us.

Many thanks to Bud, Werner, and others who have made this Report possible.
