Luposta 1932 Danzig

At least three major philatelic exhibits were held in Danzig within an eight— year period: International Briefmarken Ausstellung 1929, Luposta 1932, and Daposta 1937. All were noted by special cancels and postal stationery, but none could compare with the Luposta effort, a sort of AMERIPEX ‘86 and Paris Air Show. What made Luposta so exciting and unique was the partic ipation of the Graf Zeppelin, with three special flights: from Friedrichs— hafen, over the Baltic, and back to Friedrichshafen. All trips terminated at the Langfuhr Airport. Lottery tickets, costing 1 Gulden each, were initiated by the Danzig Senate on 19 July 1932. Winners of the two lottery series would be awarded either an outward trip from Friedrichshafen or a return trip aboard the Zeppelin. Only 20 seats were available, and the people eagerly purchased tickets. Lufthansa provided the winners transportation to and from Friedrichshafen.
