DANZIG REPORT  -  -  Nr. 58

Editor: John H. Bloecher Jr., 1743 Little Creek Drive, Baltimore, Md. 21207

Chicagopex News
Gruss aus dem deutschen Chicago! For three days in November, the Westin Hotel (just off the glide path of O’Hare) became the hotb ed of German Philately. G.P.S. members and spouses converged on the bourse, exhibition, hospitality suite and study group meetings. The Danzig group focused on the Two-Circle Cancels that are the main study in this Report. Also displayed were the elusive Danzig revenue stamps on official documents, brought from Belgium by Ronny van Waardhuizen. The feature presentation was Bud Hennig’s 1924 air post sheets, proofs and original artwork for the 21 Gulden (#206) stamp, along with the first proofs pulled from the plate. Incidentally, the #20611 with broken G shows up more than once in the first proofs. We’ll get prints of this sheet to show this phenomenon. Plate wear evidently wasn’t a factor. Present at the meeting were James Dade, Erik Nagel, John Neefus, Charles Queen, Al Hardy, Jason Manchester, Roy Dodd, Keith Stupdll, Leroy Cram and two visitors. Also present were Werner “von” Bohne, Gil Gilhousen and Roger Szymanski. Diana Manchester and her group from Columbus Chapter 20 are to be congratulated for their fine efforts in assisting Chapter 5 in running the G.P.S. convention in addition to their well-planned Infla auction. The discussions at the Luftpost Study Group were very enlightening. Cheryl Ganz returned from Friedrichshafen with details.
