Convention Report

By the time you read this, the annual convention of the Germany Philatelic Society will he taking place at the Meadowlands Hilton, Secaucus New Jersey. This always provides an enjoyable time, meeting philatelic friends and talking Danzig.

This year, however, Betty and the Editor are going to experience their first trip to Europe, including Newcastle, Antwerp, Wiesbaden, Gdansk and a few other stops. There is nothing like embarking on such a journey and knowing nothing about the procedures. Some help will be forthcoming from Burt Miller, (who will be attending the Germany & Colonies Philatelic Convention with us) as well as du Boulay, Whiteside, Rothnie, Parker, Hemery, Riches, van Waardhuizen, Kniep, Pauli and hopefully many other friends met thru philately. If you would like to go, send your name to the Editor for info.

Werner Bohne has been instrumental in acquiring copies of Werner Rittmeister’s 48—page book Sonder— und Werbestempel Danzig 1904-1945, with the definitive illustration of special and propaganda cancels from Danzig. A1though in German, it is not necessary to know more than a few key words to fully understand the value of such a book to members of our study group. Don’t forget that the Luposta 1932 English translation of Mencke’s book by Ronny van Waardhuizen is still available at $6.00 U.S. or check made out to the Editor.
