Art Hecker’s card and explanati below. Note the “20.—” in the corner. Oh, for the good old days!

I have been re-reading D.R.No.16 describing German catapult flights with Danzig frankings, by John Mattler. Under Sections II and lii, concerning the August and September 1929. trips of the Bremen, the Cologne-Cherbourg auxiliary flights are described, but not illustrated. Erich Haberer’s Kotopultpost der Dampfer Bremen und Europa of 1977, on Pages 5 and 6, shows the handstamps associated with Nachbringefluge (auxiliary flights) from Cologne-Cherb ourg to catch up with the Bremen or Europa after they had departed from Bremerhaven. Looking at the covers in Mattler’s article, those of the following dates appear to have been on the Cologne-Cherbourg flights to catch ships at Cherbourg:

Haberer No.                             Danzig Cancel Date:                           Catapult Date:
7         Bremen                                        9.24.29                                                     10.1.29
38      Bremen                                        5.11.31                                                      5.27.31
30      Europa                                         9.23.30                                                      10.1.30
107   Europa                                          5.1.33                                                        5.11/12.33

To add to this list of covers with Danzig frankings that exist via the Cologne-Cherbourg auxiliary flight, see the above illustration, described as:

91       Europa         27.7.32           8.2/3.32

This cover (card) is registered and shows these transits and receiving cancels:

Luposta                                                27.7.32 —15—16             (Danzig)
Danzig 5*K                                          27.7.32 —16                     (Airport)
Berlin Zentralfiughafen                27.7.32 —21—22
Koin-Flughafen                               (red, undated)
Mit Luftpost zurn D. “Europa” Befordert (red)
The violet Catapult cachet 2nd &  3rd August 1932
New York, NY Reistry receivinc       2nd August 1932
New York (Tompkins Square Station) Registered 3rd August 1932

Catapult flights with Danzig frankings are very scarce, and it is my thought that these, with the Cologne-Cherbourg connecting flights are true rarities.
