Strange Telegrams from Gd?
The telegram illustrated below indicates that it was dispatched from Gdansk on 6.12.1932. A closer look will show that a modification has been made to the city’s designation at the top of the telegram - Gdansk has now replaced the word Gdynia! Just the letters after the Gd have been replaced, resulting in a more costly item for us collectors to purchase. Another clue that trips up the forger is his (or her) sloppy use of the blue crayon (2), after the new tape with the ansk (3) was applied after removing the ynla. The new checkmark required some filling in over the new tape, but the forger couldn’t match the same cerulean blue in the check, ending up with two different blues. (Arrow 2) The letters ons are probably from another disc arded telegram, using the word bergtrans on tape as a source. Possibly a large cache of authentic old Gdynia telegrams has suddenly been discovered and some person(s) have decided to enhance the lot.
