When Prussia issued postage stamps, she assigned a number to each post office in alfabetical order.
Handstamps consisting of four concentric circles enclosing the post office number were provided the obliterate the postage stamp. Danzig was assigned number 304. A date stamp was also applied.
Double ring cancels with time groups were introduced in 1841 and used through 1871.
