THE PERFORATION
Both Maxa and the P.Z.P. give lists of all possible perforation combinations. Maxa desn’t use the 0.25 measures because, as he writes, the perforation machines were sometimes ver old and produced imperfect and uneven perforations
The typing mistakes in Maxa’s article make it difficult to list all perforations exactly In the following table, all known perforations, according to Maxa and the P.Z.P. are listed On the vertical columns, the perforations of the vertical sides of the stamps are listed On the hon7ontal lines, the perforations on the horizontal sides of the stamps are listed Capital letters indicate perforations that have already been registered until now
Figure 2- Perforations of the 1-zfoty stamp (after Maxa)
About 30% ofpaper v have perforation 12.5 x 12.0. About 20% are perforated 11.5 x 13.5. About 25% of the stamps on paper w have perforation 13.5 x 12.0, About 15% have perf 1 1.5 x 13.5,
THE DIFFERENT ISSUES
First issue: Plate I, ordered on December 2, 1927; 5,060,000 stamps on paper v and w.
Second Issue: Plates 2 and 3, ordered on December 18. 1928 (but according to Rachmanow 28th of December) About 5 million stamps on paper v and w. As in the case of the Pilsudski stamp, plate I developed some trouble and had to be replaced by Plate 2 during the printing process.
Third Issue: Plate 4, ordered on April Ii, 1930; 5,298,000 stamps on paper v, w, and z. Probably after reaching 5 million stamps, the English-made paper was exhansted in late 1929 and early 1930, the stamp production was transferred from the P2. G to the P WP. W Plate 3 was probably sent to the P W P W where it was repaired and cleaned. With this plate, another ±300,000 stamps were printed on Polish-made paper z. These stamps were then perforated 11.5 only, probably by PWPW machines.
Fourth Issue: Plate 5, May 16, 1931; 4,913,200 stamps printed on Polish-made paper z perforated 11.5 The plate was prepared at the P.Z.G., but the actual printing and perforating was done at the W PW Stamps of this issue were stolen and the rest were withdrawn and held at the G.P.O. stores as reserve
