Danzig in the First World War.

In the harbour area of Danzig at Troyl some 10.000 prisoners of war were held on prison ships and barges. The cover below was sent on 'army business' (Heeressache) from the camp on 23.2.17 to the Red Cross prisoner of war relief agency in Copenhagen. The cover is endorsed with the 'Danzig-Troyl Kriegsgefangenenlager' letter handstamp in violet.
*- The postcard above was sent, postage free, on official army business, on 28.4.16 from the sub-headquarters of the XVII Army Corps in Danzig.
A printed proforma message on the back confirm the grant of a monthly allowance to a dependant of a serving soldier.
