Soviet artillery, preceded by U.S. and British bombing raids, left much of old Danzig in ruins at the end of the war. This view is looking north on Slodownikow near Ogarna (Meizer Gasse near Hunde Gasse) in 1945. Tower in mi(ldle distance is part of the Rathaus. Single spire in background is the only one left on the Marienkiiche after fighting ended in April.
