Michel stamp No. 209 has a view looking south from the upper part of ZOppot. with its lamous pier in the middle-foreground. Farther down the curved beach arc the spas of(Uettkau and Brösen. This stamp was OflC of a series of five that advertised the attractions of I)an zig. Oliva and Zoppot. by using HellingratWs drawings. This stamp was issued 2X. 11.1924.
Special cancels also urged visitors to come to the beaches from the 1920s until well into the war. The SA kep the pot boiling during the 1930s by spoiling everybody’s fun when they harrassed the Jewish visitors. Merchants complained to Albert Forster (about loss of business) who tried to restrain the bigotry of the Srurmabteilung (Storm Troops).
SPECIAL CANCELS ADVERTISING THE BEACHES
1 Circular Kur und Seebod cancel was used from 24.4.1928- 7.10.1938. Diameter: 35 mm. These examptes on post cards ore from Ernie Solit.
2 Beaches are secondary, but It Is assumed that visitors to the <ic Fair will enjoy a swim, even though the cancel was used from 2.9. 1941 (with a 21 x 39.5mm size) untIl 30.9.41. A similar design, but with a size of 20 x 38mm preceded this one from 7.7. 1941 untIl 10.7.41.
3 No longer limiting comparisons to other ‘spas, Zoppot’s cancel now upgrades the resort to world-class! It was used from 12.5. 1939- 30.8.39. A wartime cancel, i used from 12.9.39- 12.11.41, eliminated all text or dates other than “Zoppot”.
