DOUBLE-CIRCLE DANZIG AND DATE - TIME IN BASE

Between 1837 and 1845, mail to Britain via Hamburg was charged 13 1/2 groschen to Hamburg.

This entire illustrated that prepayment was mandatory. Endorsed in red ink: - Aus dem Bríefkasten! Muss franco sein - From the letter-box. Must be prepaid. On the reverse in the same ink: Rosenzweing the sender’s name for return.

2nd October 1844, to London.
Double-circle DANZIG, time 3 - 4 (pm)

f. 13 1/2 in red crayon = payment on reposting.

Single-circle HAMBURG, 7/10 on back of receipt at the Prussian P.O.
Red oval T8 Oct of the Hamburg Stadtpost.
British rate 1/8 - Hamburg packet rate per 1/2 oz.
