The low penny values didn’t stand a chance in keeping pace with the upsurge of inflation; therefore, authentic postally used covers are uncommon with this issue. Michel lists No. 1181 (without network) at DM 80.- “mit Bedarfs”; that is, a postally used cover, not philatelically inspired or with special franking. Curt Michaelis suggests in his took that we keep alert for plate errors in this issue. Beware of imperfs on No. 116-118, unless they have very wide margins of at least 3 mm. Ruberg does list a “geschnitten” for the 5 Mk dark blue only, costing 40 Mk. in the year 1929. Paul Bothwell mentions a variety of No. 115, in which the nose and propeller of the plane are bent up more than thirty degrees. Beware, also, of vertical watermarks, being sure that they are the blunt-ended webbing design and not the older and larger honeycomb.
