Third Reich Corridor Propaganda The Chicago Daily News said:
“What did the Germans think —that the nations were going to make her Queen of the May?”

From a Manchester Guardian editorial:
“Would it not be better to fix a sum which Germany may fairly hope to pay within a shorter period, and thus do what we can to help her pay it? At present her industries are ruined, her people are enfeebled, her government is in total disorder. She is not in a position to resist any terms we may choose to impose. But a wise policy will treat her no longer as an enemy to be feared and destroyed, but as part of Europe of which we ourselves form an integral part, and which for many a long year will need all our help and all our care, to save it from ruin.”

From the Cleveland Press:
“It’s a hard bed, Heine, but who made it?”

President Ebert, now the highest official in Germany:
“It is unbearable for the German people, and, even if we put forth all our powers, impracticable. Violence without measure or limit is to be done to the German people. From such an imposed peace, fresh hatred would be bound to arise between the nations, and in the course of history, fresh killing.”

English Economist John Maynard Keynes:
“The policy of reducing Germany to ervitude for a generation, of degrading the lives of millions of human beings, and of depriving a whole nation of happiness should be abhorrent and detestable, — abhorrent and detestable, even if it were possible, even if it enriched ourselves, even if it did not sow the decay of the whole civilized life of Europe. Some preach it in the name of Justice. In the events of Man’s history, in the unwinding of the complex fates of nations, Justice is not so simple. And if it were, nations are not authorized, by religion or by natural morals, to visit on the children of their enemies the misdoings of parents or of rulers.

A Conspicuous Absence:
The above will provide a basis of perspective when we examine the Danzig/Polish Corridor question. It is of interest that the propaanda book “Deutschland Erwacht” doesn’t provide one mention of this phase of the Treaty’s limitations, in spite of the fact that the book provided Hitler’s complete propaganda line from the very beginning of his mission until the Nuremberg rally of 1935.
