Fred’s Flea Market Finds
Fred Behrendt has a knack for finding interesting German post cards in flea markets; however, he reports that Danzig cards are extremely scarce. Here are two that were sent to the same person in Dusseldorf in 1897. Note the similarity to the Japanese card, in that the Rathaus photo was made from the same spot — the Green Gate. The longer shadows indicate that the Langgasse of the German card was made earlier (or later) in the spring (or fall), since the times on the clock (11:20 here and 10:40 on the Japanese card) are within an hour of each other. Compare the Oliva scene with those of the stamp and Ganzsachen views. (See DR #74.)
