Thotghtson the post office attack lo,n WL’IDYSLjIWDZlEMI,IN2UK.
Danzig Report I’1o.83 shows copies of original documents of “Attack Plan for the Polish Post Office in Danzig”. It states that the most important role in defense was played by the massiveness of the building. I would like to add something that is, in my opinion, much more important than brick walls: it was the heroism and determination of the postmen, who on September 1, 1939, defended the postal building for fourteen hours and surrendered at 7 P.M. that evening. When Germans attacked that morning, Danzig was not part of the Third Reich, in spite of the German declarat ions that came only later after their attack. On the break of dawn, September 1, 1939, Danzig (Gdarisk) was still officially a Free City.

Wiadyslaw. You are right about the courage of the post office defende,s. As you can see from the Westeipslatte account, those days of hiveiy. which were professionally appreciated by Genera/major Eberhardt. caused Hitler much shife. If Poland had been given more time for preparation and mobilization, the timing of the Blitzkrieg may have beemi badly disrupted. Weri saving the remainder of your excellent letter with technical deta i/s of the post office onslaught. for the next Report, because Ewa Panas has written an article and is currently translating it.
