KURZE NACHRICHTEN
According to what we heard at a meeting in June, the Philatelic Club of Gdarcsk is planning a major stamp exhibition, opening on April 18, 1997, in conjunction with the Millenium Celebration. We were counting on this date for our next journey, although it did seem to be rather early in the year. Since then, we have heard that plans aren’t proceeding very rapidly with the Austellung, so it may be that our trip will be postponed until warmer times. We’ll keep you informed.
Don’t forget the Danzig Study Group meeting at the GPS Convention at Chicagopex, at the Rosemont Suites, O’Hare Airport, from 22 thm 24 November, 1996. Another major show, which is going ahead, is Pacific’97 World Philatelic Exhibition, held in San Francisco from 29 May thru 8 June 1997.
INFORMATION REQUESTED
On January 1, 1921, the Artus Shipping Company began emigrant service from Danzig via Hamburg to South America. In 1925-26, this service used the cancel Sea Post of the Free City of Danzig (see below). The two ships on the mn were bought late 1926 by the Hamburg-American Line, which ended the Danzig Sea Post but then used German Sea Post cancels. The Danzig usage is from 15 May, 1925 to 23 December, 1926. The Danzig cancel comes with or without an A in its lower portion. Any additional information, including the names of the two ships using the Danzig cancel, the cancels used by HAL after 1926, and additional history would help me with a portion of an article I plan to put together for the Danzig Report. - John Miskevich, 74 Larkspur Lane, Clifton NJ 07013-34 10.
