Three different cancels from 1920—1936, showing the difference between the stars (thick to thin) and the change in the design of the h, from squatty to a bit longer legs. In the later cancels, the left serif seems to drop down to the left. Also, the 5 becomes more upright and narrow in the replacement canceller. All three characteristics will identify forged cancels.
Right: Completely new cancel with a gap in center.
