Danzig Landpost Postmarks:
The postmarks of the main post office (Landpoststellen) and also those of the post depots (Postablagen) had to be placed next to the adhesive stamp, according to the regulations. However, these regulations were not always followed up. For example, the post depot Danzig-Oliva (Glettkau) appear to have placed their postmark over the stamps, Figure 25. This may have occurred as a habit, since this post depot, in the past, had its own Oliva-Glettkau postmark.

The cancellation of the stamps should generally be executed by the qualified head postal administrator. The subordinated post offices and post depots of the main post office Danzig 1 located on the Lang Gasse, often cancelled the stamps of the Bahnpostamt Danzig 5, but not the ones from the post office of Danzig 1, to accelerate the outgoing consignments. A later kind of post marking was introduced for a few locations in the first part of 1939; namely, the two circles of steel that had a bridge in the inner circle. Between the circles were the name of the post office at the top and beneath Freie Stadt Danzig. If uber Praust was placed above the bridge, then these cancels, which contained a date in the bridge, were only for the teitpostamt Praust, and those subordinated to Praust:
Gross-Trampken über Praust Lamenstein über Praust Langenau über Praust Meisterswalde über Praust

Since these rural postmarks originally contained a date, they could also be used for the cancellation of the stamps and avoided a second strike of the canceller.

Langenau was the earliest of the four post offices to lose its independence in November of 1938, with its own postmark Langenau, Freie Stadt Danzig. The other three post offices lost their independence in early 1939, so their lifetimes were quite short.

In addition to the above-mentioned post offices, the following also had their own postmarks: Altmunsterberg, Guttland, Kladau, Neukirch, Figures 10a, 10b, Schwintsch, Tiegenhagen.

The introduction of the Landpoststempel is not without anr significant meaning. Since the postmarks of the post offices and depots don’t occur very often, and because the postal traffic from these places was not very large, so the postmarks listed under A at the Leitpostamt Praust must be considered as quite scarce. Their lifetime was limited to only 40 to 45 days.
