Where to buy Danzig Philatelic Literature

One of the most frequent question asked is, “How can a Danzig collector learn more about this stamp?” The most logical place to search is the back-issue of the German Postal Specialist, but there appears to be only a couple of articles published in this field over the entire life of the journal. One of these, “The Early Postage Due Stamps” by Bud Hennig, we reprinted in Danzig Report No. 2 in 1975. Apparently one study grows upon another, and the Danzig area has never really started to document itself. (The blame lies with the serious collectors, and they are “us”!)

A commercial organization that has the largest library of Danzig material is HJMR Co., Inc., P.O.Box 6638, Hollywood, Florida 33021. They have given us permission to copy their priced list of Danzig articles, and is reproduced below. Be careful if you can’t read German, since some are so noted. The abbreviations: “TS”: tear sheet; “3PPS”: 3 pages long; “DSL’: Die Sarnmler-Lupe publication, always in German; “PH”: photostat; “ILL”: illustrated. The best of the lot is, probably, Fox’s series of articles, “The Pleasures in Danzig Stamps”, a well-illustrated review of the subject. Some of the reprints, however, tend to be obsolete, such as the “Broken Wing Variety”, and the quality of reprinting has been disappointing at times, but there is no other source for 27 related Danzig subjects as this.
