the first of September, 1939, an attack on the Polish post office at the Heveliusplatz made an end to the Polish post in the Freie Stadt Danzig. The Polish post men defended the building but had to surrender after a day of heavy attacks. The mail box at the Heveliusplalz survived the fights. (Illustration 16).
One mail box was used for displaying the prodamation of Gauleiter Forster.
The other Polish mail boxes were removed from their places in the city. (Illustrations 18 & 19)
