6.1.1 DOMESTIC MAIL - THE USE OF POSTAGE STAMPS

On 11 November 1938, the first. and as it turned out, the only, series of stamps with the words PORT GDAŃSK actually incorporated into the design, rather than overprinted, was issued to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Polish Republic.

Above: Proof of payment for a magazine subscription. 10 groszy extra postage had to be paid for a message on the back. Two 5 groszy stamps of the 1938 Port Gdańsk issue with POLSKI URZĄD P.-T. GDAŃSK 1 n cds 31.12.38.
Below: Postal collection order sent from Gdańsk to the Kościerzyna Post Office. The 25 groszy for the Ietter and 30 groszy for registration were paid by a single 55 groszy stamp of the 1938 Port Gdańsk issue. Boxed GDAŃSK 1i registration handstamp and POLSKI URZĄD P.-T. GDAŃSK 1 a cds 29.7.39 on the front. KOŚCIERZYNA e arrival cds 30.7.39 on the reverse.
